History of Assam

  • Ancient Era (4th Century AD Onwards): The Kamarupa kingdom flourished, leaving behind chronicles called Buranjis.

  • Ahom Dynasty (1228 AD - 1824 AD): Ruled for nearly 600 years, shaping Assamese identity and culture.

  • British Rule (1824 AD - 1947 AD): Marked by tea plantations, infrastructural development, and demographic shifts.

  • Independence and After (1947 AD Onwards): Assam became a state of India, but its borders saw adjustments with the creation of Meghalaya, Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, and Mizoram.

Culture of Assam

  • Rich Mix: Influenced by Mongoloid, Indo-Burmese, Indo-Iranian, and Aryan ethnicities, creating a unique blend.

Geography of Assam

    • The hilly regions like Karbi Anglong and North Cachar, with remnants of the Deccan Plateau.
